The "thinking drawing" is what Wayne Thiebaud calls his sketches. Thinking drawings help him figure out how to make interesting or dynamic compositions. His preparatory sketches help him figure out the backgrounds, balances, colors, and objects he wants to use in his artwork so when he creates his final artwork it looks just how he would like it. In the artwork "Rows of Ties" the tie on the right differs from the rest because it is more spaced out than the rest of the ties and the other ties have straight lines and the tie on the right has curvy lines. I think the artist separates this tie from the others because it sticks out more and it helps create balance in the drawing.
